How might I use design to cultivate more gratitude in my life, and in turn give it back to those in my community?

The Goodness Tracker

Introducing Good Thinking! The brand built around expressing gratitude.

To facilitate the beginning of this research projects, I used a reflective journal to try and cultivate “A Week of Change.” After an emotional day surrounded by friends, I wrote that I wanted to change how often I show my gratitude to others which ultimately developed into my research question.

Through research, I found that writing down what you’re grateful for can foster friendships, build community, increase happiness, improve physical health, and help a person deal with adversity. People often cultivate gratitude by writing in a daily gratitude journal, however, based on survey results journaling “feels like a chore” to some participants. So Good Thinking! decided to change that perspective.

Good Thinking! makes cultivating gratitude easy. The 2023 calendar has 365 lines for you to write down what you’re thankful for.

One thing.
Once a day.

That’s all it takes to practice Good Thinking!

The Exhibition

In the gallery space viewers were encouraged to practice their own Good Thinking by responding to the prompt “What are you grateful for right now?”.

In just one week’s time, over 90 people practiced Good Thinking by interacting with this installation.
